Hey readers, we haven't been on in awhile, but I'd like to announce our upcoming gig! The full band, including a new member--drum roll please-- Ruby Henson, will be playing at Cherrywood Art Fair on December 7 at Noon! And make sure to stay and shop for your artsy Christmas gifts! Many makers from all around Austin have been accepted to sell their wares this year and participate in Little Artist Big Artist-- A program where East Austin fifth graders create art with mentors and then donate one of their pieces to Cherrywood's silent auction!

Anyways we'll be performing and we've written some new songs so if you're in the area, come on down! Hope to see ya there! ~ Turtle Master

GRC: Playing At Lunch

Hi readers! A few days ago we had our GRC show, where we played for the campers while they ate. We played"Crystal City", one of our originals, "Save Me", our newest original, and to put a twist in, we played a rhythmatic version of "Rumor Has It", by Adele. We had so much fun there, afterward we had a mini "conga line" and were asked to play another song. We also had a special guest, our friend Ruby, who helped us play "Rumor Has It". Also, GRC has put up a few videos of us at lunch there and answering questions. Don't forget to subscribe to Girls Rock Camp Austin's youtube channel.
Our website has also been under a few more changes so don't forget to check at that out too! We also have some merch and some new logos around. Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment any suggestions and email us.

Band Update: Week 6

Hi readers! At the end of the school year, we'd like to remember all our fun, music and gigs that have happened over the school year if 2012-2013. Our very first gig, at The Rockin' Tomato, we were so excited to get our first show! We couldn't wait to share our music, and when we got the call, we totally freaked out, screamed, jumped around, as most people would do with a goal in mind and their very first, at that. Our second gig, at the Cherrywood Art Fair, brought us a lot of excitement too. Our first press release was on the Cherrywood Art Fair website, and it was also really exciting! Our third gig, SXSW! That was completely unexpected, we had no idea it was coming! One of the biggest music festivals in Austin, people come from around the world, so many famous bands, good music, it was so exciting for us. We also had our first interview for the band, and we were featured on a newsletter. Wow! It only feels like yesterday when we had our first practice, only a few hours ago when we had our first gig. Time goes by so fast, yet here we are, approaching summer, thanks so much for sticking with us, tuning in, giving us your time. Bye!

Band Update: Week 5

Hi readers! It's almost time for school to end, and summer to start, which opens up lots of opportunities for everyone... New gigs, new songs, good times, and lots of fun. Who's excited? From former weeks we have mentioned possibly an end of the year party.  With more information on that, we haven't been able to contact the park to get a permit, so it's most likely off, but that's okay. Another time might be better, when it's not so short notice, and we find a good place to host. Thanks so much, guys for  tuning in and reading!

Band Update: Week 4

Hi readers! The end of school is near, and summer is almost here! There is a possibility that we wil be hosting an end-of-the-year party, it could include music, food, swimming, fun, maybe even some open-mic business if anyone is interested in that. Hopefully this isn't too short notice, but hopefully this will come to life, and it will be a lot of fun. If you went to Lee last year, or any other year, you are totally cool to go, it may even become a reunion at the end of the year if anyone is interested in that. There will probably be some more information on this later, so for now, bye!

Please keep up those comments, and give some suggestions for t-shirts, also, if you want to buy one, we are working on making them available for purchase. Requests Anyone?

Hey readers, just wanted to let you guys know that if you want us to do a specific song, you can request that song and we might consider playing it. Post in the comments below what songs you'd like us to do. We prefer punk-rock-ish songs, but we are always open to possibilities, like an orchestra adaptation of your fave song, or an acoustic version. Please ask us questions, request songs, etc, we will answer any questions you want for us, as long as it's band related.

Getting Back Together!

Hi readers, as you know we have had two gigs so far, the second of which was the Cherrywood Art Festival. When we were practicing for this show many of us got really stressed out and frusturated with one another. We decided that we would take a break from practicing, but this break has been going on for a while, and we've all decided that we'll be starting practices again soon, for the SXSW gig! We might put up some videos of us playing a song, but that might be for a while, we'll still be posting interesting stuff here!
Please follow or comment on this blog, we'd really like your feedback!

Rory!

Hi my name is Rory even though 4 some reson my profile says rory with an i... ok back to da point. so here comes a short auto biography! now we start with the indiana jones theme song...
I was born on December 12 2000 during an icestorm. (yes an ice storm in Austin) i have lived in 4 houses throughout my many years of living. (only like 12) i am obsessed with the website Fantage and my favorite color is Cyan. I am TOTALLY in love with the Band the Beatles and my 2 Role Models are Weird Al Yankovic and Paul McCartney. My favorite food is sushi. I play the Cello and the Bass Guitar. I also love to sing. man this is turning into a all about me paper not a Auto Biography... well when i turned 12 the date was 12-12-12. So can you guess what my lucky number is??? well i hope u didn't guess 21 because its obviously 12. (if you guessed 21 please go to a mental therapist immediantally... just kidding!!!) ok so... thats me! WAIT! i LOOOVVVEEEE My Little Pony Friendship is Magic and my favorite character is PINKIE PIE!

Erin!

Hi readers, Rory said that we would all be doing like, autobiographies, so I thought, hmm, why not? Heres's mine! Hope you enjoy!
I have been living in the exact same house my entire life. We hold our band practices at my house, in my dad's back office, he's really great to let us use his office, and I'm really glad he's doing it for the band. I play drums, as you know, and I love to play them! Sometimes it's just great to... well, hit things that make a lot of noise.... with sticks... I started becoming interested in the drums at around 3rd grade, but I wasn't able to play them until the summer after 5th. I learned to play them at GRC, and at first, I wasn't exactly the best, but when my family bought me a new drum set, I started practicing on it, and I got better! I currently don't have any current drum lessons, because I basically just make up beats of my own and practice them.
I've had a few more experiences in music, I took piano for a few years, but then I decided it wasn't right for me, it frusturated me a lot. This year, I'm taking the stand-up bass in orchestra, and I also love that too! I'm hoping to get private drum lessons some time soon, so that I can improve, but for now I'll just have to improvise..
Thanks for reading guys! Follow or join this blog, keep reading soon! (I'm hoping we will be publishing frequently)

The Band

Hey guys! you may be wondering about the individual members of the band. they will all write a short auto biography of themselves!
Rory is the Bass guitarist
Helena is the singer
Erin is our Drummer
Rosa is our Keyboardist
And Sophia is our Guitarist
ENJOY!

SXSW!

Hey guys! Remember in our last post the fact that we formed because of Girls Rock Camp Austin? You probably should! Well, GRC has offered us a gig at SXSW, at the Cherrywood Coffeehouse! It will be over the spring break, our first show of 2013! (If we don't get another one between then and now) We will be getting more information on our show later, so stay tuned!

A Little History Lesson

Hey readers, some of you may be wondering how we formed the band. All five of us have been great friends for like, ever. Our guitarist has been playing guitar for a few years now, our lead singer takes lessons, our keyboardist takes lessons too, the bassist takes lessons from her dad, who was in a few bands, and the drummer took lessons at a rock camps, and that set her off.
All of us took a camp over the summer, called Girls Rock Camp Austin. They formed a band called Different Dimension.  A few months later, we all decided to join up again and play some music for fun. When we were offered our first gig, we loved it, and we decided we would continue, and seriously take it on. Now we have regular practices, and we have so much fun! We are expecting more gigs soon, possibly a battle of the bands. (More info on that later)

Welcome! ;)

Hey readers, we are a band named Skewered by Elephants. We are a local Austin band, and we've played a few gigs so far. Our instruments and musicians consist of our awesome guitarist, a rockin' bassist, a talented singer, a great keyboardist, and an energetic drummer.
The first of which was at the Rockin' Tomato. It was a lot of fun! All of our friends and family were there to support us, and we loved playing there.
Our second show was at the Cherrywood Art Fair. The Cherrywood Art fair is a local festival where artists, musicians, chefs, etc come to share their talents and trade with everyone. We got to play at the outside stage, and again, we were supported by so many friends and family members. The show was great, and the crowd was yelling for an encore! It was so much fun!
This blog will keep you updated on our latest gigs, and newest songs, and possibly you can buy a band t-shirt! We hope you continue to read our blog, follow it, and listen to some great music.
